Risk Groups To Be Screened:
Any individual less than 35 years of age.
Individuals with known exposures to or contacts with TB cases.
Individuals infected with HIV or individuals suspected to be infected with HIV in whom the test results are not yet known.
Individuals with a recent history of substance abuse including IVDU, crack cocaine use, and alcoholism
Foreign-born persons who recently arrived (within 5 years) from countries with high prevalence rates of TB (e.g. Asia, Africa, South America, and Eastern Europe).
Individuals who reside or have recently resided in high-risk congregate settings such as correctional institutions, homeless shelters, or long term care facilities (i.e. nursing homes)
Individuals with medical conditions that increase the risk of active disease once infection has occurred, including but not limited to:
a) abnormal chest radiograph showing fibrotic apical lesions
b) diabetes mellitus
c) end-stage renal disease (ESRD)
d) prolonged corticosteroid therapy
e) immunosuppressive therapy (i.e. bone marrow and solid organ transplant patients)
f) hematologic malignancies such as leukemia or lymphoma
g) carcinoma of the lung, oropharynx, or upper GI tract
h) post gastrectomy or intestinal bypass
i) weight loss >10% of ideal body weight
j) silicosis
Medically undeserved or high-risk racial/minority groups such as Native Americans, Native Alaskans, etc.
