Alcohol-Based Hand Rub
When Should an Alcohol-Based Hand Rub Be Used?
Before entering a patient's room.
After contact with a patient.
After removing one's gloves.
When Should an Alcohol-Based Hand Rub
Not
Be Used?
When hands are grossly soiled with dirt, blood, or body fluids; soap and water should be used to remove the offending agent.
Alcohol-Based Hand Rub:
Push dispenser once.
Coat all surfaces:
Between fingers
Back of hands and wrists
Under fingernails
Rub briskly, until dry.
No rinsing needed.
