Control Measures
Chicken pox
Infected Patient

  1. Place patient in a negative pressure room on Airborne Precautions and Contact Precautions until all lesions have dried and are crusted over.

  2. Only personnel who are immune to chickenpox should enter the room and care for the patient.

Infected Health Care Worker

A health care worker who develops chickenpox should immediately contact Occupational Health Services (OHS) and Epidemiology and Infection Control. OHS will determine how long the worker should remain off duty. Epidemiology and Infection Control will investigate potential exposures.
