Standard Precautions

Chlamydia trachomatis - Respiratory (i.e., pneumonia), a rare disease of newborns, requires Standard Precautions.

Respiratory Chlamydia trachomatis is a Category 2 reportable disease. Report by mail within 12 hours of recognition or strong suspicion to both local and State Health Departments.

Note: Chlamydia trachomatis pneumonia should not be confused with Chlamydial pneumonia secondary to Chlamydia pneumonia (TWAR strain) or Chlamydia psittaci (psittacosis)--the latter two are not reportable diseases.
