Standard Precautions

Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) requires Standard Precautions.

Note: AIDS is a clinical syndrome with discrete clinical and/or laboratory criteria. The presence of an HIV+ antibody status does not necessarily imply such a patient meets the definition for AIDS itself.

AIDS is a Category 2 reportable disease. Report by mail within 12 hours of recognition or strong suspicion to both local and State Health Departments:

To initiate reporting, notify YNHH Epidemiology and Infection Control at 8-4634.
