Standard Precautions

Encephalitis requires Standard Precautions. For cases of encephalitis due to suspected/confirmed enterovirus in infants and young children, Contact Precautions is also required.

Encephalitis is a Category 2 reportable disease. Report by mail within 12 hours of recognition to both local and State Health Departments:
