Contact Precautions
Enteroviral Infection in infants and young children
(e.g., EHCO virus; Coxsackie virus; aseptic meningitis; Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease; pleurodynia; herpangina) requires the use of Standard Precautions and Contact Precautions.
Contact Precautions:
- Private Room
- Don and remove gown and gloves upon entering and exiting patient's room.
- Wash hands after removal of gown/gloves.
- Dedicate non-critical patient care equipment.
Duration of Precautions: Duration of illness
Enteroviral encephalitis is a Category 2 reportable disease. Report by mail within 12 hours of recognition or strong suspicion to both local and State Health Departments:

To initiate reporting, notify YNHH Department of Epidemiology and Infection Control at 8-4634.
