Contact Precautions
Abscess - Major requires
Standard Precautions and Contact Precautions.
A major abscess is defined as an abscess in which the drainage is not contained by a dressing.
Contact Precautions:
- Private Room
- Don and remove gown and gloves upon entering and exiting
patient's room.
- Wash hands after removal of gown/gloves.
- Dedicate non-critical patient care equipment.
Duration of Precautions: Until abscess stops draining
