The Sports Medicine
Practice offers diagnosis and treatment of all athletic injuries plus pre-sports
participation exams. Inpatient treatment and surgical procedures are done at Yale-New
Haven Hospital and Temple Surgical Center. Arthroscopy, a microsurgical technique, is often employed to repair joints
while traditional reconstructive surgery is used for musculoskeletal damage. Other
treatments include custom-made orthotics, braces, sports splints and personalized home
rehabilitation programs.
Staff members also consult with high school and
university coaches and offer second opinions. Seminars focusing on prevention and the
latest treatment methods are conducted regularly for coaches, trainers, and physicians.
The Yale
Sports Medicine Practice operates by appointment only. Office hours are 9 am to 5
pm, Monday through Friday. For athletic emergencies during office hours, patients may come
to the Practice but must call beforehand. At all other times, emergency cases can be seen in
the Emergency Room at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Patients should ask for the orthopaedic
resident.
