Francoise N. Hamlin is a Ph.D. candidate in African American Studies and American Studies. Taught by Heather Williams, she started quilting in her first year, and is part of the “Batting and Chatting” quilting group. She is influenced by bold colors and gets inspiration from her surroundings and from the fabric itself. The quilt on exhibit with its the colors of summer sky and sun, evolved into this design with the incorporation of black fabric that perfectly contrasts and frames the bright tones.
