About Art Place

From Clinical to Beautiful…Art Place Transforms the Yale Physicians Building

Yale Physicians Building Art Place uses the power of the arts to enrich the visitor experience for the hundreds of patients who visit the building each day.  Founded by Ms. Lorraine Roseman, and Terry Dagradi, Art Place enhances the patient care setting with original work from artists within the Yale and New Haven communities.

The Yale Physicians Building is located at 800 Howard Avenue in New Haven and is the medical office building of the Yale Medical Group.  The Yale Medical Group is one of the largest specialized academic healthcare group practices in the United States, and represents 60 percent of the total outpatient visits at Yale University School of Medicine.  Clinical services are organized into 17 clinical departments and nearly 100 subspecialty areas, covering the full spectrum of adult and pediatric services.  The Yale Physicians Building houses: Diagnostic Radiology, Dermatology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Gynecologic Oncology, Medical Oncology, Neurology, Plastic Surgery, Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, Surgical Specialties, and Urology.

The emergence of the new approach to family-centered care in clinical practice has prompted many medical centers across the country to transform existing patient care facilities into warm, friendly and attractive environments.  The leadership of the Yale Medical Group believes it is critical that the Yale Physicians Building remain at the forefront of this important new movement.

The Arts Council of Greater New Haven designated Yale Physicians Building Art Place as an official New Haven art space in May 2000.  This achievement was a promising first step toward realizing one of our key goals: to enhance the overall health care experience of the more than 400,000 patients, visitors and staff who visit the facility each year, by providing the most pleasing and comfortable setting possible.  The first exhibit transformed the building overnight, lining the walls with photographs, prints, paintings, quilts and a 15 foot bronze sculpture in the lobby.  An International Gallery was added.
