Ulcerative Dermatitis in Mice


Topical Treatment of Ulcerative Dermatitis

  • apply Triple Antibiotic Ointment daily as needed
  • may be combined with systemic antibiotic treatment

Protocol for the Treatment of Ulcerative Dermatitis in Mice Using Augmentin

  1. Using 250mg/ml suspension of Augmentin add 3.2ml to 500ml of drinking water
    1. To mix up smaller quantities (drug is expensive and only good for 10 days after reconstituting):
      Weigh out 7.52 gm of powder
      Reconstitute by adding 26ml sterile water
      Add to water bottle as above
      Refrigerate after reconstituting and discard after 10 days
  2. Invert/shake water bottle daily to resuspend any drug that has settled out
  3. Change bottle and give fresh medication 2x/wk
  4. Continue therapy for 10-14 days

Dexamethasone Dose For Mice

(Dose range obtained from "Exotic Animal Formulary")
0.lmg/kg - 0.6mg/kg IM

To make up dilute solution:
Add 0.25ml (0.5mg) of 2mg/ml Dexamethasone to 4.75 ml of sterile water to equal 5ml of dilute solution @ 0.1mg/ml
To administer a 0.2mg/kg dose:
Weight of mouse mg dose Volume of dilute solution
20 g 0.004mg 0.04ml IM
25g 0.005mg 0.05ml IM
30g 0.006mg 0.06ml IM

For treatment of dermatitis: Give as a single injection; repeat in 7-10 days if needed
