Suggested Treatments for Mouse Mites


  1. Equiguard or Atgard Pellets (Dichlovos)
    1. Dosage
      1. For a shoebox cage use 1/2 teaspoon (1 box Atgard will treat ~150 pens)
      2. for a large plastic use 1.5 teaspoons
    2. Administration
      1. Add to clean bedding and allow to remain in cage for 5-7 days (until next bedding change)
      2. Repeat same treatment on day 14
      3. The entire regimen should be repeated again in 1 month
    3. New Animals
      1. As animals are weaned or received into room during the treatment period they should also have Dichlorvos added to their cages
  2. Ectiban Powder (Permethrin)
    1. Dosage
      1. For a shoebox cage use 1/4 teaspoon
      2. for a large plastic use 1/2 teaspoon
    2. Administration
      1. Add powder to clean bedding and allow to remain in cage until next bedding change (7 days)
      2. Repeat treatment every 2-3 weeks for a total of 4 treatment
      3. The entire regimen should be repeated again in 1 month
    3. New Animals
      1. As animals are weaned or received into room during the treatment period they should also have Ectiban added to their cages
  3. No Pest Strips (Dichlorvos)
    1. Dosage
      1. You may either cut strips into quarters and suspend 1 piece above each shelf on all racks or hang entire strips at various points around the room according to square foot coverage listed on package
    2. Administration
      1. Allow strips to remain for as long as effective (according to package)
      2. Hang new strips as needed
