Exercise and Environmental Enrichment for Cats Housed at Yale University


All cats will have social interaction with the YARC technician daily. Each cat will be held and petted.

Toys and environment enrichment objects will be provided.

  • Scratching posts
  • Wall mounted perches
  • Ba1ls, squeaking toys and enrichment devices
  • Cat beds
  • Group housing in room when possible

Note* All objects will be sanitizable and none will contain catnip.

Exemptions

Investigators may request that animals involved in a specific experimental protocol be exempt for exempt from the exercise program. They must document their request in writing to the Yale Animal Care and Use Committee (YACUC) at the time of protocol submission and annually thereafter. These requests must be reviewed at least annually by the YACUC.

Animals may be exempt from exercise by the attending veterinarian for reasons of health, condition, or well-being.
