Rodent Quality Assurance Monitoring Program

IntroductionRequest to Introduce Rodents

  • To request introduction of animals from sources other than commercial vendors approved by the Yale Animal Resource Center (YARC), please complete this form and submit it using the button at the end.
  • After approval you will be notified by Email.
  • Missing information may cause delays in processing the request.
  • Shipment of animals should then be arranged through the YARC Coordinator at 785-6071.
  • Please note that in most cases rodents from non-commercial sources are housed in quarantine for 6-8 weeks while undergoing testing for pathogenic micro-organisms.
  • As of July 1, 2006, a $112 Import Fee will be implemented.   This charge will partially defray administrative costs.  Your PTAEO will be billed at the time the request is APPROVED (which happens after receipt of a health report), regardless of whether the animals are ever actually received and regardless of whether the animals are intended for acute or chronic use.   In addition, the usual procurement fee ($2 per mouse or rat) will be assessed when the animals arrive.

Proposed Use
Please indicate whether quarantined animals will be used for:

  • Acute experimental use - for animals used in acute experiments within 6-8 weeks of arrival to quarantine.  All procedures involving live mice/rats must be done in quarantine space.  These animals will not be released from quarantine.  Access to quarantine is limited and special arrangements should be made; generally a startup-meeting is required in which the intended procedure is discussed in the context of protecting the Yale colonies from pathogens.
  • Experimental use after release from quarantine - any procedure that involves transporting live mice/rats from quarantine (ie: to the laboratory) must be done after animals are released from rodent quarantine.
  • Establishing a breeding colony
