Mouse Phenotyping Service

Caroline J. Zeiss, BVSc, PhD

Director

Assistant Professor, Section of Comparative Medicine

The Mouse Phenotyping Service characterizes gross and histologic phenotypes of genetically altered mice. It serves investigators who may not be familiar with normal mouse anatomy and histology, including age and strain-related variations, and background pathology.

  • Necropsy and gross examination
  • Tissue collection and processing
  • Complete or partial histologic examination
  • Narrative or summary description of findings
  • Publication and presentation quality photodocumentation

 Guide to Services

Consult with us prior to submitting mice. The age, gender, and number of mice that will be required to adequately evaluate a phenotype will vary. Information about tissue-specific or age-specific expression and expected phenotypes will facilitate characterization. Mice should be submitted alive. The behavior and appearance of live mice is a valuable adjunct in phenotypic analysis. High resolution radiographs, hematology, and clinical chemistry may provide important additional information.
