1701 Yale College founded.
1810 Medical Institution of Yale College chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly.
1813 Institution formally opens with 37 students from the New England states and a faculty of five.
1814 First degrees conferred.
1826 General Hospital Society of Connecticut is incorporated.
1833 The State Hospital, precursor to Yale-New Haven Hospital, opens.
1839 M.D. student thesis requirement formalized.
1857 First African American student graduates.
1911 Child Development Clinic, precursor to the Child Study Center, founded.
1913 First formal affiliation between Yale and the hospital.
1915 Department of Public Health established at Yale.

1923 Yale establishes the School of Nursing.
