Scientific Director
Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center
The Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center is establishing a Core Facility for Immune Monitoring of patients on clinical trials. This facility will both advise and work with investigators to devise optimal monitoring strategies, including, but not limited to, flow cytometry immunophenotyping, antigen-specific MHC tetramer analysis, TcR spectratyping, and antigen-specific proliferation, cytokine and other functional cellular analyses. These analyses will be carried out on both direct patient samples as well as on engineered cellular therapeutic products. A Scientific Director of the facility, who will work under the overall director (Dr Brian Smith), is now sought. Responsibilities will include:
- Devising new immune monitoring assays as needed for designated clinical translational trials, in concert with the trial PI and the overall director of the facility
- Validating these assays and establishing appropriate SOPs (standard operating procedures) for the assay and for ongoing quality control
- Performing these assays on patient samples and cellular therapeutic products, maintaining appropriate records, and reviewing results with the trial PI as needed
- Supervising a part-time technician in the laboratory who will assist with performing the ongoing assays
- Interacting with other members of the clinical trial team (including investigators carrying out additional basic assays) to provide ongoing support, including technical education as needed
- Advising on needed new technologies to accomplish the purposes of the core
- Pursuing collaborative original research in this general area of investigation, resulting in scholarly publication
Requirements for the position include:
- a doctoral degree in Immunology or another relevant field
- excellent interpersonal skills with an interest in translational investigative work
- experience in assay development and validation
- flow cytometry, cell biology and molecular genetics experience relevant to the goals of the core facility
- prior experience in immune monitoring for clinical trials preferred
