Oral Reports for MBB 110a:

Fall Term 2006

Faculty: William C. Summers, M.D., Ph.D.

Format for Oral Reports:

The oral reports for MBB 110a are designed to provide you with an opportunity to present a part of your findings to the seminar in an organized and thoughtful way. This is the sort of presentation that scientists make to their colleagues at scientific meetings when they "give a paper".

The format is as follows: Time limit is 10 minutes for your presentation and an additional 5 minutes for informational questions and brief discussion. The time limit will be enforced by a timer. You may use visual aids if you believe that will be useful in making your points. The classroom has available blackboards, overhead projector, and power-point technology. If you plan to use power-point: 1) make sure your laptop battery is charged or bring a power supply to plug in; 2) if you use a Mac, bring the appropriate adaptor plugs; 3) get to class early enough to check that your setup is working; 4) get your laptop setup in advance of your allotted time.

Limit your talk to one or two main topics. Do not try to cover your entire project. Tell us what you found, NOT simply a summary of "What is going to be in my paper." Practice your talk ahead of time for timing and organization.... timing, especially.

The quality of your talk will count toward your grade in this course.
