Social and Behavioral Sciences Program

The Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) Program is a two-year program within the Chronic Disease Epidemiology Division leading to an M.P.H. degree. The primary emphasis is on understanding behavioral, psychological, and social influences on health status, and on altering adverse lifestyles and psychosocial risk factors at the level of the individual, primary social groups and communities. Areas of excellence include Psycho-social and Behavioral Interventions and Women’s Health Research. The SBS curriculum is unique in that it combines courses in social and behavioral sciences and epidemiology. Students are trained in the theory and methods of the social and behavioral sciences, as they relate to public health. SBS students matriculate each year with diverse undergraduate and graduate degrees.
