About the YPRA Logo
About YPRA:
The YPRA emblem depicts a 'yale,' a mythical medieval beast which appears
in various guises of English heraldry, in the lower right quadrant. It
has been described as an "antelope, with the snouts and tusks of
a boar, or the heads and hooves of a goat, and with the tail of a lion,
elephant, or a goat." In the lower left quadrant is a book, symbolizing
the thirst for knowledge and the value of education. The emblem also bears
the symbol of the medical profession, the Caduceus. As for the lightning
bolt, that's open for interpretation!
Inscribed on the banner below the crest are the Latin words erudire,
ars medendi, and advocare. These words reflect ideals central to the YPRA;
namely, education, care, and advocacy. The YPRA emblem was designed by
Drs. Vladimir Coric, Louis Sanfilippo, Andrew Chambers and Paul Whitehead.
