Constitution of the
Yale Psychiatry Residents Association |
| Purpose |
| To advance the welfare
of psychiatry residents of the Yale Department of Psychiatry, Yale
School of Medicine; to fulfill our primary missions of erudire
(education), ars medendi (clinical care) and advocare
(advocacy for both residents and patients); to maintain an active
dialogue with the administration of the Yale Department of Psychiatry
and with the Yale Psychiatric Alumni Association; and to provide appropriate
services for psychiatry residents. |

Article I
Name and Membership |
| Section
1. |
The name
of this organization shall be the Yale Psychiatry Residents Association.

| Section
2. |
The membership
of the organization shall consist of all individuals who are participating
in the Yale Psychiatry Residency Training Program. |
Article II
Meetings |
| Section
1. |
The Association
will hold at least two Executive Committee meetings, two General Membership
meetings, and two meetings with the Director of Graduate Education
each month. The time and location of the meetings shall be determined
by the Executive Committee. Additional meetings may be called by the
President (or one of the two Co-Presidents). |

A quorum
shall consist of those present. |
Article
III
Officers, Executive Committee, and Functions

The Executive
Committee is the working committee of the Association and shall report
to the General Membership. |
| Section
2. |
The officers
shall be a President, a Vice-President, a Treasurer, and a Secretary.
Each shall have a one year term to begin in August of each year. The
Executive Committee may chose to elect Co-Presidents instead of both
a President and Vice-President. The Executive Committee may chose
to designate Co-Treasurers or Co-Secretaries when appropriate. |

The officers
of the Association shall be elected by the Executive Committee. Membership
in the Executive Committee is determined by attendance at greater
than half of the Executive Committee meetings. |
| Section
4. |
Either
the Executive Committee or the President(s) shall appoint such committees
as are desirable and essential to accomplish the work of the Association.

5. |
The President(s)
shall appoint, with the concurrence of the Executive Committee, chairpersons
of Association committees. |
| Section
6. |
The President
(or Co-Presidents) shall preside at all meetings; in absence of the
President(s), the Secretary or Treasurer will preside. |

7. |
The Secretary
shall be responsible for keeping minutes of all meetings and communicating
resident activity to the General Membership via the monthly Association
Newsletter. |
| Section
8. |
The Treasurer
is responsible for maintaining the Association's funds and collecting
membership dues. Additionally, the Treasurer is in charge of fund
raising activities. The Secretary shall assist in publicizing fund
raising activities and notice of membership dues. |
Article IV
Dues

Dues
of the Association may be set or modified by majority vote of the
Executive Committee. |
Article V
The Emblem of the Association
|
| Section
1. |
The official
emblem of the Association is the crest depicted on this Association
letterhead and the Latin words erudire, ars medendi, and advocare
may be inscribed below that crest to reflect the ideals central to
the Association; namely, education, care and advocacy. |
Article VI
Amendents to the Constitution

1. |
The Constitution
may be amended by majority vote of the general members present at
any General Membership meeting, properly called, provided that the
Executive Committee recommends the change and provided that copies
of the proposed amendments have been distributed to the membership
at least one month in advance of the meeting. |
