Education: A.B., Princeton University, 1977 Research Interest:The Psychiatric Consultation Service provides psychiatric care to adult patients admitted to the medical, surgical and obstetric units of Yale New Haven Hospital. We are interested in both the psychiatric effect of medical illness and its treatment, and the medical effects of psychiatric illness and its treatment. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD, winter depression) has been a particular focus, including the effects of light treatment on biological rhythms, the development of new forms of light treatment based on new discoveries about the type of light that most affects the body clock, and the possible role of blood-borne molecules such as bilirubin as transducers of that light signal.
