Research Interest

My research interests lie in the interface between mental health and medical care. Studies have shown that persons with psychiatric and substance use disorders are at elevated risk for chronic disease morbidity (including diabetes, cancer, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C) and mortality. In addition, mentally ill patients represent a population that is potentially vulnerable to experiencing barriers to and receiving poorer quality of medical care. My work is focused on improving the quality and outcomes of primary and specialty medical care among patients with mental disorders, and is currently supported by a Career Development Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Services Research and Development Service (2004-2007).
