Dixwell/NewHallville Community Mental Health Services, Inc.
Dixwell/Newhallville Community Mental Health is a private, non-profit organization that provides primary, secondary and tertiary mental health services to the Dixwell and Newhallville communities as well as other minorities in the greater New Haven area. In collaboration with a variety of public and private agencies, it offers psychiatric, early childhood, positive youth development, family counseling, job training, family life education, family support and community organizing services. Staff members focus on providing professionally, culturally competent and readily accessible services.

Hospital of St. Raphael's Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Services offers group psychotherapy, medication management/maintenance, psychiatric evaluation for adults 18 years of age and older. Brief, focused individual interventions are available on a limited basis when necessary to maintain functioning in the outpatient setting. Clients may attend anywhere from 1 to 4 groups weekly, depending on acuity of symptoms and level of need for support and structure. Dual diagnosis, trauma, creative arts and psychodrama groups are available, in addition to traditional psychotherapy groups.

February 26, 2009amden offers a comprehensive range of outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment for adults and the elderly. Presenting problems that can be addressed by the staff include life adjustment issues, family conflict, and psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. General services include intake and evaluation, crisis intervention, individual, group, family and couples treatment, psychiatric evaluations and medication evaluation and management. Specialized programming focuses on psychosocial rehabilitation for individuals in need of continuing care, dual diagnosis services and dialectical behavioral therapy. Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital (YNHPH) provides specialized psychiatric care to adults, including the geriatric population, and adolescents. Psychiatric care for children is provided under the auspices of Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. All programs are handicapped accessible. All programs are located at 184 Liberty Street, New Haven, CT, except the Adult Ambulatory Programs, which are located at 425 George Street, New Haven, CT.

General Adult Inpatient Program treats patients, ages 18 and older, who require comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment to stabilize their psychiatric symptoms. The unit is a brief, acute treatment program that provides comprehensive assessment, psychopharmacologic evaluation and management, family therapy and psychoeducation, occupational therapy, psychoeducational and cognitive behavioral therapy groups, crisis intervention and case management to patients in need of an intensive and safe setting.

Dual Diagnosis Inpatient Program treats patients, ages 18 and older, who require comprehensive psychiatric/substance abuse evaluation and treatment to stabilize their psychiatric symptoms and substance abuse. The unit is a brief, acute treatment program that provides detoxification, substance abuse psychoeducation and treatment, psychopharmacologic evaluation and management, family therapy and psychoeducation, occupational therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention and case management to patients in need of an intensive and safe setting.

Adolescent Inpatient Program  treats patients, ages 12-18 and older, who require comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment to stabilize their psychiatric symptoms. The unit is a brief, acute treatment program that provides comprehensive assessment, psychopharmacologic evaluation and management, family therapy and psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral, and psychosocial rehabilitation groups, crisis intervention and case management to patients in need of an intensive and safe setting.

Geriatric Inpatient Program treats patients, ages 65 and older, who require comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment to stabilize their psychiatric symptoms. The unit is a brief, acute treatment program that provides comprehensive assessment, psychopharmacologic evaluation and management, family therapy and care giver support/ psychoeducation, occupational therapy, crisis intervention and case management to patients in need of an intensive and safe setting.

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is offered for patients with treatment-refractory mood and psychotic disorders.

Ambulatory Adult Service provides partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs for adults ages 18 and older. All programs are located at 425 George Street, New Haven, CT. The following levels of care and tracks are provided:

Partial Hospital Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treat patients ages 18 and older who are struggling with psychiatric and dual diagnosis (psychiatric and substance abuse disorders). The Partial Hospital Program is the most intensive level of ambulatory care and provides a highly structured, supported environment, four hours per day, up to 5 days per week. The Intensive Outpatient Program, which meets less than 4 hours a day and less than 4 days per week, is for patients who have achieved some stability but need more intensive treatment that outpatient alone. These are structured group therapy and case management programs. Clinical services for both programs include comprehensive evaluations, crisis intervention focused on acute life stressors, group therapy, family therapy as needed, cognitive behavioral therapy groups, relapse prevention groups, psychoeducation, and case management.  

Three tracks are provided:February 26, 2009patients with self-destructive behaviors,

General Adult for patients with depression and anxiety disorders, and 

Dual Diagnosis for patients with co-occurring psychiatric illness and substance abuse.

Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (ADIOP) is a structured, after school program for adolescents, ages 12-18. The ADIOP provides comprehensive assessment, supervision, structure and support within a nurturing group therapy format. Services include cognitive behavioral skill building group therapies that focus on feeling management, problem solving and social skills, group psychotherapy, family therapy, skill teaching and case management.

Hill Health Center is committed to providing accessible, comprehensive and quality primary and behavioral health care to low income and underserved residents in the Greater New Haven area.
