Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital (YNHPH) provides specialized psychiatric care to adults and adolescents. Psychiatric care for children is provided under the auspices of Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. All programs are handicapped accessible. All programs are located at the above address except the Adult Intensive Outpatient Program. Clinical

General Adult Inpatient Program treats patients, ages 18 and older, who require comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment to stabilize their psychiatric symptoms. The unit is a brief, acute treatment program that provides comprehensive assessment, psychopharmacologic evaluation and management, family therapy and psychoeducation, occupational therapy, psychoeducational and cognitive behavioral therapy groups, crisis intervention and case management to patients in need of an intensive and safe setting.

Dual Diagnosis Inpatient Program treats patients, ages 18 and older, who require comprehensive psychiatric/substance abuse evaluation and treatment to stabilize their psychiatric symptoms and substance abuse. The unit is a brief, acute treatment program that provides detoxification, substance abuse psychoeducation and treatment, psychopharmacologic evaluation and management, family therapy and psychoeducation, occupational therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention and case management to patients in need of an intensive and safe setting.

Adolescent Inpatient Program  treats patients, ages 12-18 and older, who require comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment to stabilize their psychiatric symptoms. The unit is a brief, acute treatment program that provides comprehensive assessment, psychopharmacologic evaluation and management, family therapy and psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral, and psychosocial rehabilitation groups, crisis intervention and case management to patients in need of an intensive and safe setting.

Geriatric Inpatient Program treats patients, ages 65 and older, who require comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment to stabilize their psychiatric symptoms. The unit is a brief, acute treatment program that provides comprehensive assessment, psychopharmacologic evaluation and management, family therapy and care giver support/ psychoeducation, occupational therapy, crisis intervention and case management to patients in need of an intensive and safe setting.

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is offered for patients with treatment-refractory mood and psychotic disorders.

Ambulatory Adult Service provides intensive outpatient programs for adults ages 18 and older. All programs are located at 425 George Street, New Haven, CT. The following levels of care and tracks are provided:

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treat patients ages 18 and older who are struggling with psychiatric disorders and with dual diagnosis (both psychiatric and substance abuse disorders). The Intensive Outpatient Program, which meets less than 4 hours a day and less than 4 days per week, is for patients who have achieved some stability but need more intensive treatment that outpatient alone. These are structured group therapy and case management programs. Clinical services for both programs include comprehensive evaluations, crisis intervention focused on acute life stressors, group therapy, family therapy as needed, cognitive behavioral therapy groups, relapse prevention groups, psychoeducation, and case management. 

Three tracks are provided:

• DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) for patients with self-destructive behaviors
• General Adult for patients with depression and anxiety disorders
• Dual Diagnosis for patients with co-occurring psychiatric illness and substance abuse.

Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (ADIOP) is a structured, after school program for adolescents, ages 12-18. The ADIOP provides comprehensive assessment, supervision, structure and support within a nurturing group therapy format. Services include cognitive behavioral skill building group therapies that focus on feeling management, problem solving and social skills, group psychotherapy, family therapy, skill teaching and case management.
