Concerned About A Family Member Or A Friend With Depression?
Dealing with depression can be frightening and confusing not only for
the person with the illness, but for family members, friends and co-workers.
Recognizing depression in others will help you give them emotional support
and encouragement to seek help. People with depression may need medication
and / or therapy to feel better. Without treatment, the symptoms can last
months, years or a lifetime. If you have a friend or family member that
has many of the following symptoms resulting in an inability to function,

- Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day
- Greatly diminished interest or pleasure in almost all activities
- Fatigue or loss of energy
- Physical agitation or being slowed down
- Problems sleeping
- Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
- Inability to concentrate or think clearly
- Thoughts of death or suicide -
Seek professional help immediately!
- Significant weight loss when not dieting or significant weight gain
