Respiratory
Medicine
The Section of Respiratory
Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Yale University and Yale-New
Haven Hospital is a multi-disciplinary Section that has developed considerably since the early 90's and continues to develop and refine its clinical and research activities.
The Section has expanded
its activities in the past few years in a number of clinical areas, including
new initiatives in Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchoscopy, Pulmonary function
Testing and Tuberculosis. For example, we have developed an Asthma Program
and a Pediatric Asthma Care Team (PACT), which is multi-disciplinary care
of asthma patients seen by physicians and nurse practitioners from the Section of Respiratory Medicine, Allergy/Immunology and Primary Care.
We have a CF screening program here at Yale. We also increased
our Bronchoscopy service over past few years. Services have also be added
in our Pulmonary Function Test laboratory at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London and started another clinic in Greenwich. Our Pediatric Sleep Center in the Clinical Research Center continues to flourish and we have studied this past year a larger number of children than ever before. In our Pediatric Respiratory Care Unit, we care for a large number of infants and children afflicted with chronic respiratory diseases including BPD,asthma, congenital lung and airway diseases and chronic or acute neuromuscular conditions.
