Hematology/Oncology

Clinical

Pediatric Hematology/Oncology seeks to provide the finest care for children with malignant diseases and hematologic disorders now, while participating in clinical research to develop improved therapy for the future. Our daily clinics provide care for children with a broad range of diagnoses. Disease specific clinics are also organized for Hemophilia/Coagulation, Sickle Cell Disease and Brain Tumors. An additional clinic, the Health Education Research Outcomes for Survivors of Childhood Cancer, or HERO's Clinic, addresses the delayed and often long lasting side effects of cancer therapy. A multidisciplinary team of physicians in pediatrics, laboratory medicine, surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, pathology, therapeutic radiology and diagnostic radiology work together on a case-by-case basis to treat each child:

Malignant tumors, including:

    • Brain tumors
    • Osteosarcoma (bone cancer)
    • Solic tumors, especially germ cell tumors
    • Ewing sarcoma & Neuroblastoma
Leukemia & Lymphoma (Hodgkin's Disease)
Hemophilia
Sickle Cell Anemia
Thalassemia

    • Thromboembolic Disease - clotting, including arterial, venous thromboses
        and pulmonary embolism
    • Thrombocytopenias - excessing bleeding, often resulting in removal
