Hospitalist Medicine

Yale faculty pediatricians who specialize in the management of hospitalized children with a wide array of illnesses in a family-centered approach based on communication and compassion. Since our "clinic" is the hospital ward, we are readily available to our patients multiple times each day and for extended periods each time. This allows us to quickly respond to our patients' changing needs, to coordinate the input of any involved specialty consultants, and to provide an important link to community pediatricians. We adhere to the highest standards of care and are constantly updating our practice as new research emerges in the treatment of childhood diseases.

Making referrals to the Hospitalist service

The best way to initiate a referral to our Hospitalist service depends upon the day and time it is done. During regular work hours (7:30am to 5pm) on weekdays, paging the age-appropriate hospitalist (see below) on their personal pagers is preferred. For weekends and after hours, the hospitalist who is on call will be carrying the Hospitalist service cell phone. The phone is on 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Infant & Toddler Unit (birth to 4 years of age)
Matthew Grossman, MD
(203) 370-8634
School Age & Adolescent Unit (5 years of age and older)
David Hersh, MD, PhD
(203) 370-8635

If your attempt to use personal pagers is unsuccessful during normal work hours, then please contact the cell phone.
