Pediatric Faculty Development

The Pediatric Faculty Development Group is a resource for our faculty. Our overall goals include:

  • Assist faculty to navigate the promotions process
  • Enhance academic development of faculty through mentorship
  • Define resources required for career development
  • Identify and encourage trainees who are potential faculty candidates

Promotion Process:
Develop departmental guidelines for promotion in each of the faculty tracks: Traditional Track; Clinician-Scholar Track; Clinician-Educator Track; Investigator Track

  • For faculty - define expectations
  • For Appointments & Promotions Committee - provide a consistent set of guidelines for deliberations
  • For mentors - provide a basis for informed counseling

Identify Time Lines for career development in each track.

Provide periodic career counseling for junior faculty.

Mentorship
The Pediatric Faculty Development Group will provide an important resource, but not the exclusive resource, for mentoring members of the faculty. A mentor or mentors will be identified for every faculty member who does not have a continuing appointment. If the designated mentor is not a member of the Department, the section chief, or another member of the section, should serve as an additional mentor.

Resources for career development
Issues include the initial resources which every member of the faculty should have available to them no matter which faculty track (Clinician Scholar or Clinician Educator) they are likely to pursue and ongoing support for travel and education for faculty on the Clinician-Educator track.

Identify and nurture trainees who are potential faculty candidates
Our Group includes Sonia Caprio; Marie Egan; Brian Forsyth; Laura Ment; Karen Santucci; and, Gene Shapiro. Please feel free to contact any of us regarding faculty development in Pediatrics.
