CardiologyEducationThe staff cardiologists and nurse practitioners of the Yale Pediatric Cardiology Section are active in the teaching mission of the Yale School of Medicine, the Department of Pediatrics and Yale-New Haven Hospital. As such, they participate in a wide array of educational opportunities. Yale Pediatric Cardiology physicians have coordinated or been on faculty for symposia such as the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Symposium, San Diego Practical Pediatric Electrophysiology and Pacing Course, Charleston Pediatric Interventional Electrophysiology Symposium, Congenital Heart Surgery Symposium, Pediatric Interventional Catheterization Symposium, International Symposium on Congenital Heart Disease, Society for Pediatric Research, World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology, and many others. Yale also sponsors a number of CME events for pediatricians and pediatric care providers in the region, such as the Annual Yale Pediatric Update. Training Program in Pediatric Cardiology at Yale University School of MedicineThe Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine is a three-year program designed to train board-eligible pediatricians for a career in academic pediatric cardiology. The Fellowship's strength results from a balance between extensive clinical exposure to a broad spectrum of congenital and acquired heart defects and cardiac arrhythmias, and active clinical or basic research. The entire training is received at Yale University School of Medicine and the Children's Hospital at Yale New Haven. In addition, the faculty is supportive of elective rotations to further broaden clinical and research interests. Yale University School of Medicine has both a strong history and current record of major contributions in clinical and basic sciences as they relate to pediatric cardiovascular disease. The recently completed Boyer Center for Molecular Biology houses several laboratories of faculty members of pediatric cardiology. The Children's Hospital was opened in 1993 and houses state of the art diagnostic facilities including digital catheterization and echocardiographic laboratories dedicated to pediatrics.
