Education

Adolescent Medicine offers:

• Four-week rotations for pediatric and internal medicine-pediatric residents in adolescent medicine.
• Training for nursing and students in the care of the adolescent.
• Training for third-year psychiatry residents in child and adolescent psychiatry.
• Training for Yale medical students their required 3rd year Pediatrics rotation and 4th year electives.

The clinicians of the section of adolescent medicine provide pediatrics and medicine/pediatric residents with a 4-week rotation in adolescent medicine. This rotation offers clinical teaching and practice in Primary Care (through the Primary Care Clinic and School Based Clinics), in referral care for complex medical issues (through the Adolescent Comprehensive Care Clinic at Yale-New Haven Hospital). Additionally, residents see adolescent patients at a number of other sites; these include a College Health Clinic sessions at Fairfield University, (under the guidance of Joanne Zolkowski-Wynne), at the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention facility, and at the New Haven Job Corps Center. These clinical sites are offered to provide residents with a varied and comprehensive clinical experience in Adolescent Medicine.

In addition, the PCC Adolescent Clinic serves as a site for medical students during the ambulatory part of their third year required clerkship in Pediatrics, and a two-week elective for 4th year medical students is beginning for the current year, which will allow students to rotate through all of the primary care and subspecialty sites providing care to adolescents. The advanced level nurse practitioners also precept medical nursing and physician associate students at the school-based clinic sites as part of their pediatric ambulatory rotations.
