About Us

In 1975, the Office for Women in Medicine (OWM) at Yale School of Medicine was founded to advance the careers of women in medicine and the medical sciences. The Office for Women in Medicine is committed to promoting the academic growth and career development of women physicians, scientists and students.

The Office provides a supportive environment for its constituents by fostering and promoting activities, policies and strategies favorable to women in medicine and demonstrating the enormous contribution women make and have always made to the medical and scientific professions. In establishing the Office for Women in Medicine, Yale University demonstrated its commitment to and support of women in medicine.

Our mission...

  • Initiate and develop programs to increase awareness and promote the academic growth of women in medicine and medical sciences
  • Provide professional counseling and psychological support relating to gender-related issues
  • Conceptualize and plan Medical School-wide and University-wide programs to anticipate and effectively deal with gender-related issues
  • Supervise Title IX compliance and interpret federal policies and regulations for application by the School of Medicine and
  • Conceptualize, initiate and implement workshops and programs to educate trainees, faculty and administration regarding opportunities as well as regulations, restrictions and legal responsibilities in the area of gender-related discrimination and well-being of women in medicine
