What students say about support

I was really surprised when I came to Yale Med to find how much the faculty and administration care about us not just as students, but simply as people. Even the busiest professors, clinicians, and Deans know us by name and always make time for us - even if it's just to find out how things are going.

I'm probably the biggest fan of the Deans at Yale! Even during "Second Look Weekend" they made us feel part of the Yale family. There is no other school that supports its students the way Yale does. (And it's great when they invite us over for dinner!)

What's so amazing about Yale Med are all the resources at our fingertips. Not only are the world's foremost scientists and clinicians here, but they are also here teaching, training, and mentoring us every step of the way. None have ever been too busy to answer a silly question or give advice about career choices.
Merle Carter, Wellsley College YSM '98>

Upon gaining acceptance to Yale, I recall feeling afraid that my decision to attend medical school would mean the end of a "normal life" for the next 4 years. Instead, I have found a wonderful, supportive environment that has allowed me to grow in innumerable ways. During my first 2 years, participation in the variety of student run community service programs available at Yale helped keep medical school and my reasons for being here grounded. After my 2nd year, when I felt that I wanted to learn more about community based health intervention and prevention, I was encouraged to pursue a Master's in Public Health degree. The faculty and administration at Yale made sure that my transition to and from public health school was as smooth as possible.
