Cancer is not as rare a disease among younger women as one might expect. In the United States, approximately 600,000 women are diagnosed with cancer every year, 10% of whom are under the age of 40. Infertility centers attain relatively high success rates following in vitro fertilization (IVF), in many cases through the simultaneous transfer of multiple embryos. In 2006, IVF programs transferred a mean number of 2.45 embryos during IVF cycles, leading to a 34.3% live birth rate, of which 32.0% were multiple–infant live births in the United States. more…

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common, costly, and debilitating disorder that negatively impacts quality of life for many women. During POP, a woman’s pelvic organs (uterus, vagina, bladder, and rectum) descend, causing symptoms that include urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction. POP affects 30%–50% of the population and increases in frequency with advancing age. more…
