Ranked as the ninth leading cause of death was suicide. Twenty deaths to New Haven residents as a result of suicide occurred in 1994. Fifty-five percent of all deaths by suicide were attributed to white residents. There were 13 deaths resulting from suicide between the ages of 15-34. Males had a higher crude death rate than females with a rate of 26.0/100,000 while females had a death rate of 5.7/100,000.
