A total of 414 resident deaths were due to diseases of the heart in 1994. The crude death rate increased slightly in 1994 to 317.3/100,000 compared to 312.7/100,000 in 1993. At least one death due to diseases of the heart occurred in all the age categories from "30-34 years" through "85 and over". The majority of deaths due to this cause were in the higher age brackets. Residents who died of heart disease who were 65 years old and older accounted for 82% of all deaths attributed to this cause.

The death rate for white residents increased slightly from 436.9/100,000 in 1993 to 438.3/100,000 in 1994. For nonwhite residents the death rate increased from 167.3/100,000 in 1993 to 176.0/100,000 in 1994.
