Diabetes Mellitus also ranked as the eighth leading cause of death which accounted for a total of 24 resident deaths in 1994. The death rate for Diabetes Mellitus was 18.4/100,000. The crude rate of death due to diabetes for nonwhite residents was 16.6/100,000 in 1994 and for white resident deaths due to diabetes the rate was higher with 19.9/100,000. Seventy-five percent of all deaths due to diabetes were residents 60 years or older. All years that diabetes was ranked in the ten leading causes of death are listed below.
