Deaths

A total of 1,266 resident deaths occurred in 1994. The overall crude death rate remained about the same 9.5/1,000 in 1993 to 9.7/1,000 in 1994. Resident males had a slightly higher rate than females in 1994. A total of 656 male deaths occurred, making the crude death rate for males 10.6/1,000. The female death rate was 8.8/1,000 from a lower total of 610 resident female deaths. Table 9 below shows the total number of deaths and death rates by race to New Haven residents between 1970 and 1994.
