The number of deaths caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease decreased slightly from the previous year (1993) with 43 deaths. In 1994 this disease ranked as the seventh leading cause of death with a total of 31 resident deaths. The percentage of total deaths decreased from 3.4% in 1993 to 2.4% in 1994. White residents accounted for 74% of deaths caused by chronic-obstruction and had a crude death rate of 32.7/100,000. Nonwhite residents had considerably lower figures with a total of 8 nonwhite resident deaths and a death rate of 13.2/100,000.
