Congenital Malformations

The number of babies born with congenital malformations and who died of these anomalies was 4 in 1994. The malformation rate per 1,000 live births was 2.0. Nonwhite mothers gave birth to 50% of the babies born with malformations in 1994 and the rate for white mothers was 50%. The crude rate for nonwhite mothers was 1.0 per 1,000 live births and 1.0 per 1,000 live births for white mothers. Table 7 lists the total number of congenital malformations by age of mother and race of child.

Sex Ratio

The ratio of male births to female births decreased from 1,088 in 1993 to 1,037 in 1994 per 1,000 females born. The total number of males born was 1,013 compared to a total of 977 females born.

Plural Births

A total of 47 live births occurred in plural deliveries in 1994. There were 47 twin births. The plural birth rate increased from 22.8 per 1,000 in 1993 to 23.6 per 1,000 births in 1994.
