Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) was ranked as the third leading cause of death. This is the ninth year AIDS ranked in the ten leading causes of death and the fifth year AIDS ranked in the first five leading causes of death. There was a total of 105 resident deaths in which AIDS was listed as the primary cause of death. Nonwhite residents had a significantly higher death rate of 129.5/100,000 compared to white residents with a crude death rate of 38.4/100,000. Males accounted for 68% and females accounted for only 32% of AIDS deaths in 1994. The percentage of males and females remained the same for the past two years.
