A total of 22 resident deaths due to homicide occurred in 1993. The 1993 crude death rate from homicides was 16.8/100,000 decreasing from the 1992 crude death rate of 23.8/100,000. The death rate for nonwhite residents was higher than t hat of white residents. The nonwhite death rate was 28.2/100,000 whereas the white death rate was 7.1/100,000. Male residents accounted for 77% of the homicidal deaths and had a death rate of 27.7/100,000. There were 5 female homicidal deaths recorded in 1993, making the female homicidal death rate 7.2/100,000.

Fourteen deaths to New Haven Residents as a result of suicide occured in 1993. Sixty-four percent of deaths by suicide were attributed to white residents. There were 11 deaths resulting from suicide between the ages of 25-49.
