The number of deaths caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease increased slightly from the previous year (1992) with 39 deaths. In 1993 this disease ranked as the seventh leading cause of death with total of 43 resident deaths. The percentage of total deaths increased from 3% in 1992 to 3.4% in 1993. White residents accounted for 76% of deaths caused by chronic-obstruction and had a crude death rate of 46.9/100,000. Nonwhite residents had considerably lower figures with a total of 10 nonwhite resident deaths and a death rate of 16.6/100, 000.
