Deaths

A total of 1,239 resident deaths occurred in 1993. The overall crude death rate remained about the same 9.9/1,000 in 1992 to 9.5/1000 in 1993. Resident males had a slightly higher death rate than females in 1993. A total of 615 male deaths occurred, making the crude death rate for males 10.2/1,000. The female death rate was 9.0/1,000 from a slightly higher total of 623 resident female deaths. Table 9 below shows the total number of deaths and death rates by race, to New Haven residents between 1969 and 1993.
