Congenital Malformations

The number of babies born with congenital malformations was 5 in 1992. The malformation rate per 1,000 live births was 2.3. Nonwhite mothers gave birth to 60% of the babies born with malformations in 1993 and the rate for white mothers was 40%. The rate for nonwhite mothers was 2.5 per 1,000 live births and 2.1 per 1,000 live births for white mothers. Table 7, below lists the total number of congenital malformations by age and race of child.

Sex Ratio

The ratio of male births to female births increased from 1,067 in 1992 to 1,088 in 1993, per 1,000 females born. The total males born was 1,095 compared to a total of 1,006 of females born. One child was born without a sex determination .

Plural Births

A total of 48 live births occurred in plural deliveries in 1993. There were 48 twin births. The plural birth rate decreased from 30.6 per 1,000 in 1992, to 22.8 per 1,000 births in 1993.
