The number of deaths caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was the same as deaths caused by Diabetes Mellitus (250) in 1991. Ranked as the eighth leading cause of death with a total of 25 resident deaths. This number decreased from the 1990 total of 35 deaths which occurred as a result of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The percentage of total deaths decreased slightly from 2.9% in 1990 to 1.9% in 1991. White residents accounted for 76% of deaths caused by chronic obstruction, and had a crude death rate of 27.0/100,000. Nonwhite residents had considerably lower figures with a total of 6 nonwhite resident deaths and death rate of 9.9/100,000.
