Congenital Malformations

The number of babies born with congenital malformations was 18. The malformation rate per 1,000 live births was 7.3. Nonwhite mothers gave birth to 67% of the babies born with malformations in 1990 and the rate for white mothers was 33%. The rate for nonwhite mothers was 8.9% per 1,000 live births and 5.3% per 1,000 live births for white mothers. Table 7, below lists the total number of congenital malformations by age and race of child.

Sex Ratio

The ratio of male births to female briths increased from 1,109 in 1989 to 1,132 in 1990, per 1,000 females born. The total of males born was 1,309 compared to a total of 1,156 females born.

Plural Births

There were a total of 63 live births which occurred in plural deliveries in 1990. All plural births were twins. The plural birth rate decreased from 27.5 per 1,000 in 1989, to 25.6 per 1,000 births in 1990.
