Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) was ranked the fourth leading cause of death. This is the fifth year AIDS ranked in the ten leading causes of death and the second year AIDS ranked as the fourth leading cause of death. There was a total of 49 resident deaths in which AIDS was listed as the primary cause of death. Nonwhite residents had a significantly higher death rate of 63.1/100,000 compared to white residents with a crude death rate of 15.7/100,000. Males accounted for 65.% and females accounted for 35% of AIDS deaths in 1990. In 1989 males accounted for 69% while females accounted for only 31% of AIDS deaths. Female deaths have increased at a higher ratio than male deaths for 1990.
